Pump Stations Improvements December 2023

SVCW’s Design Builder, Shea Parsons Joint Venture (SPJV), and SPJV’s subcontractor Power Engineering Construction (PEC), continues to make progress on the Belmont Gravity Pipeline (BGP) project. Efforts towards demolition and removal of the existing 48-inch and 24-inch piping continue inside the San Carlos Pump Station (SCPS). Simultaneously, construction of the new Bair Island connecting piping has also been completed. This is a new pipeline which connects the 48-inch force main carrying wastewater flows from Menlo Park and Redwood City collection systems, to the newly constructed drop structure at Bair Island. The drop structure conveys these flows to SVCW for treatment via the gravity tunnel.

At the Redwood City Pump Station (RCPS) wet well and screening building, SPJV has finished installation of pump support features, such as guide rails and discharge supports. Current activities include installation of bar screens and washer compactors, which are mechanical equipment used for removal of debris and other inorganic wastes in the wastewater influent. At the electrical building, SPJV continues performing prep work for eventual connection to PG&E’s service. Installation of a new transition cabinet is ongoing, which will be followed by construction of the primary service duct bank. Installation of the new programmable logic controller (PLC) was also completed last month.

SPJV proceeds with structural and electrical improvements at the Menlo Park Pump Station (MPPS). Vibration testing on the newly installed pumps has been completed. Functional testing on each piece of equipment is being conducted as the equipment is installed. SPJV performed installation of the gas detection panel and oxygen sensors in the electrical room last month. Once the installation was completed, startup of the gas detection panel was initiated. SPJV conducted electrical equipment training for SVCW operations and maintenance (O&M) personnel to familiarize them with operating the equipment. SPJV also completed asphalt-concrete paving at the site.
