SVCW’s contractor partner, Shea Parsons Joint Venture (SPJV), and SPJV’s subcontractor Power Engineering Construction (PEC), have concluded construction of the Belmont Gravity Pipeline (BGP) along Shoreway Road in Belmont and San Carlos. Vadnais Trenchless concluded the final phase of microtunneling in December 2022, which spanned the stretch between jacking shaft 3 (JS-3) and receiving shaft 3 (RS-3). This marks a major construction milestone for the BGP project. PEC is in the process of restoring the RS-2, RS-3 and JS-3 shaft sites over the next few months. Throughout all microtunneling operations, SPJV, PEC and Vadnais maintained a high level of coordination with the SVCW public outreach team and neighboring businesses, helping limit construction impacts due to traffic modifications.
At the Redwood City Pump Station (RCPS), SPJV continues with structural and electrical work at the pump station wet well and screening structure. This month, SPJV completed coating work in the screening channels. With the forms for the new pump pads now in place, SPJV is set to pour concrete within the forms, which will then be allowed to cure so that full desired concrete strength can be achieved. Ongoing electrical work includes installation of overhead conduits and supporting equipment at the wet well deck.
Structural and electrical work makes headway at the Menlo Park Pump Station (MPPS). Following installation of the new pumps and pump pads in the A-side pump room, SPJV has completed installing suction and discharge piping for the two A-side pumps. Simultaneously, SPJV installed new motors and power connections to the motors in the motor room. At the pump station wet well, baffle walls were installed for managing flows within the well, which will be followed by placing sensors and level transmitters for flow monitoring. Additional work at the pump station includes installation of foul air ducting for the A-side wet well, as well as miscellaneous electrical equipment in the B-side electrical room.
